Target Timber Visits Supplier MEDITE SMARTPLY Factory

It’s not often that we get the opportunity to visit one of our supplier factories, so we were very excited to be invited to take a tour of the MEDITE^® SMARTPLY^® factory in Waterford, Ireland.

MEDITE SMARTPLY is an industry-leading producer of oriented strand board (OSB) that is used for a range of structural applications. SMARTPLY OSB are engineered wood panels that are manufactured by compressing engineered strands of wood to produce moisture-resistant panels that are incredibly strong and versatile.

Target Timber Systems uses SMARTPLY^® MAX where we need to sheath our custom-made wall panels, and we use 18mm tongue flooring board when a structural sub-deck is required.

The quality of the products is outstanding, as are their sustainability credentials – both deciding factors when choosing our suppliers.

Factory Tour

In June this year, three of our team took the opportunity to visit MEDITE SMARTPLY’s state-of-the-art factory which houses their new £40 million drying, energy and screening system.

We began our visit at their mill where we were introduced to the site team and were given an overview presentation about the history of the mill and the SMARTPLY product range.

Following safety procedures, we then went on a tour of the mill, starting at where the logs arrive and then through each meticulous production process, right through to finishing and into the warehouse where products are despatched.

The tour was followed by an open Q&A session which was followed by lunch. And, as is customary on a visit to Ireland, we ended the day at a local pub for a Guinness or two!

In summary, it was a fantastic day and a real eye-opener in terms of their impressive facilities and the quality standards throughout the whole manufacturing process.
